Just got all caught up with what happened to the site. Dude?! Well, if everything in life went smooth I'd be bored to shit! I'm on vacation until Saturday so I have all this awesome internet time once again. Other than that, things are going pretty well. The baby isn't a baby anymore...he'll be 2 in March. The dojo is doing great, still growing and I've been getting defects from other schools in the area which is a good sign that I might actually know what the hell I'm doing -- the verdict is still out. The principle of a local high school joined with his four kids so I've been getting enrollments from other towns. The only shitty thing going on right now is my car is in the shop. I was hit by an unlicensed “undocumented worker” who ran a red light and spun me around twice. The baby of course was in the car with me! He is fine. His car seat and bulky winter coat stopped him from getting hurt but the impact literally knocked the snot out of his nose! The car needs body work, a new rim, and a rear axel. Fucker hit me right on my back tire; I had a ˝ second to cut the wheel so he didn’t hit the passenger side door and send an airbag into my son. Physically, same shit. I work out when I can and try to watch what I eat. I have a lot of free time right now so everyday when the baby goes down for his nap I hit the gym. My wife bought the dojo a microwave for Christmas so I can take a larger variety of food with me. Hunting season was great this year. I filled 2 tags, one 10 minutes after opening day officially started. 167 yard (ranged) shot with my .30-06. I was using the 150 grain Remmys…deer fell right in my scope! I took a six point typical with my bow a couple weeks earlier. The rack scored a 91 which isn’t bad for southern NY. Check out the attached picture of the van I bought for the after school program. It's a 12 passenger. I hope all is well for everyone. Happy Holidays! Russ attached the following image: ![]() [110.04Kb] Edited by Russ on 30-12-2009 16:56 |

I hired my second employee today! He is exactly what I was looking for -- a talented martial artist, good temperment, and loves teaching. He just graduated with a degree in IT which means he's going to be unemployed for the next 2-3 years. So, I'm going to invest and train him to be an instructor. He's only a bue belt right now, so its going to take another year and a half of training, but this dude is natural athlete. He is taking over my day programs so I'll only be teaching the evening classes. So, instead of relaxing a little I'm going to give myself more to do! My old company called me back. They are in trouble...big trouble. Sales have tanked 40%. So, I'm going back part time to help them. I feel like its the right thing to do -- they gave me my big break in the corporate world which gave me the resources to buy the dojo in the first place. But, I'll also be able to pay off my business loan in 2 years instead 4-5 so its a win-win. I'll be VP of marketing for one company and owner of my own small business. The good news is I'll be able to set up my little guy which makes me feel good. I'm from a working class, Bronx family and started out with nothing. I just don't want my son to struggle the way I had to. I want him to earn what he accomplishes, but not have to fight every step of the way. The bad news is I'm never going to make it to 70! ![]() Hammer, I'm also hiring a Gracie BJJ instructor in April. He's coming on as an independant contractor. Interested in coming to NY?

Wow. Sounds like things have been wicked busy. I am, however, glad to hear that your son is ok from that car accident. I don't believe I read anywhere in there, as to whether you had sustained any injuries in that.... Nice job on the dojo. Absolutely amazing. ------- -------------------->> Where there's a will, there is Most Certainly a way. > No Pain, No Gain! USGI- AFR, Wife, Mom, EMT-B, NA/R, PCT, FT, IBO |

Yes, it is good to having a successful business in this economy. It is also good to have a sense of wanting to continue nurturing something you helped create, that is the marketing thing. |

Well, I'm back at the gym a solid 3 days a week. If you really want to fall to pieces...start teaching! Going back to work has actually allowed me to manage my time better. It's only been 2 weeks back at the gym, but I'm feeling better already. My "week day diet" is clean, its the weekends I'm still struggling with. And, now that the warm weather is here the beer peeking out of every gas station window is calling me! Damn beer! I could not go back to my regular gym because I'd get my balls busted. It's not like I put on 100 pounds but lets just say that my v-shape is gone. So, I joined a gym that I knew I'd hate just to motivate me to get in reasonable shape and get the hell out of there! It's called Retrofitness. Let's put it this way, if I died and went to hell I'd have to work out there for all eternity!!! Every thing about the place sucks balls. I only did a 3 month contract just to get going again. After that its back to rusted dumbells and a heavy bag. |

Lost 12 pounds so far...very happy about that. I'm just about ready to go back to my old gym. I had a minor set back...upper respiratory infection knocked me on my ass for almost a full week. The weather and pollen count are so out of control in NY a lot of people are getting sick. My plan so far has been simple: 20 minutes of cardio and two muscle groups. I do 3 different lifts per muscle group. I do this work out 3 times a week. My diet is still “okay.” I wouldn’t say it is “good” just yet. Breakfast and lunch are clean, dinner is a challenge some nights. I did realize I was not getting enough calories for lunch and my workouts were suffering. I was eating a lot of salads…good food, but not enough fuel for me to teach 3-4 martial arts classes and then go work out. So, I just added more hard boiled eggs and grilled chicken to the rabbit food. Sadly I’m still doing the 3 meals a day thing with a whey shake pwo (water, no milk). I just don’t have time to stop and eat 4 – 6 times a day. And, the few times I did I went over on my calories for the day. My metabolism sucks and for me to cut weight I have to stay under 2,000 cals a day. 1,700 - 1,800 works for me. 2,000 – 2,300 I can maintain. If I go over 2,500 cals I slowly start to gain weight. Other than that…same shit, different day. |
